THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT? SPECIAL EDITION 100 Years Of Comedy In 90 Minutes FRIDAY & SATURDAY NIGHTS FEBRUARY 29TH - MARCH 22ND The Miracle Theatre (map) 525 SE Stark St (1/2 Block E of Grand) Show Starts @ 8pm $12 @ The Door Call 503-627-9847 for Reservations http://www.myspace.com/the3rdfloor
Every three years, The 3rd Floor, Portland's longest-running and most critically-acclaimed theatrical comedy troupe puts on a run of their greatest hit sketches from the past few years. Entering their 12th season, that time has come once again. But this time, they're doing things a bit differently. The format of their shows has changed a bit since the last Greatest Hits run. Having added heavier themes and storylines to their shows, the prospect of pulling individual pieces to replay on their own (without the corresponding surrounding sketches) has become more and more difficult. So, this time, they're remounting an entire show (2005's "That's Entertainment?"¯), with a few additions just to keep things interesting for those that might have seen it the first time around. This show ran late-nights for only 3 weeks in 2005. The 3rd Floor is thrilled to welcome the show to prime-time for a brand-new audience.
THE CRITICS LOVES THE SHOW!"The question mark (in the title) ought not be taken as a sign of doubt or incredulity: The show, which runs through March 22, is by turns silly and smart, antiquated and audacious, but it's surely entertaining." ( link )- Marty Hughley, The Oregonian "I loved 'That's Entertainment'.". - Grant Butler, The Oregonian "...while great televised sketch comedy might be dead (or at least hibernating) all hope's not lost. Live sketch comedy is alive and kicking, and for that I profusely thank the 3rd Floor. That's Entertainment? The Director's Cut is a remixed version of a production the 3rd Floor briefly performed in 2005, and it aims to do nothing less than sum up the entire history of modern comedy. Advertising "100 years of comedy in 90 minutes," each sketch is performed in the style of a major comedic movement-from vaudeville and silent motion pictures to late-night talk shows and variety hours. (Also included: Satan, a grown man in a dirty diaper, and an irate Leonard Nimoy.) But it's less about the concept and more about the troupe, who might be the funniest nine people in Portland. So the important part is this: Go to this show, because it's funny and clever and unpredictable and smart and fun, and it will make you laugh…That's Entertainment? is a blast-and yet another welcome example of how the 3rd Floor is keeping sketch comedy vibrant, sharp, and alive."
