PRESS CLIPPINGS
TOUSSAINT PERRAULT - THE PORTLAND MERCURY
"The 3rd Floor's newest sketch collection plays like a rock show, with a series of holiday gags interrupted only by adoring applause and the busting of guts. The sketch ensemble seems to have come of age with Holiday, finally achieving the nearly impossible combination of crass immaturity and sophisticated speed. It's probably a better idea to celebrate the holidays with the 3rd Floor than with your own family, because the comedians are faster, funnier, and look better in drag. Most importantly, there's not a scene-stealing drama turd in the whole bunch."
KEVIN CHESLEY - PRETTYWITTY.COM
"And certain groups are becoming well-respected in the sketch community. Portland's Festival, unapologetically entitled The Best Of The Best, culls its line-up from the groups it considers to be innovating the face of sketch comedy. And where do those groups try earning that distinction? At the Festivals. With groups like The 3rd Floor and Hoskins and Breen, Portland itself is a city whose sketch community is fiercely inventive. The press and the area audience are learning this year by year."
ERIC LARSON - WILLAMETTE WEEK
"Take some Saturday Night Live, add a splash of audio and video interludes, a sprinkle of naughty language, a lot more rehearsal time, and you've got a pretty good grip on The 3rd Floor's sketch comedy triumph…inspires true-blue, belly-aching laughs...The sketches are chaotic but surprisingly polished, and the communication between these performers is a rare treat."
CHICAGO MAGAZINE
Five Shows Worth Catching - #4 The 3rd Floor: With its past premises involving giants, unicorns and naked cowboys, this boundary-busting Portland, Oregon ensemble has become a festival fave. Watch out for spattering blood.
ALEXANDER ZALBEN (PRODUCER OF SKETCHFEST:NYC) IN GELF MAGAZINE
""Third Floor" I love. They did one of the best sketch shows I've ever seen, which was their set in Portland Sketchfest last year. They have really big-budget, high-concept sketch comedy, while also being really incredible actors."
TRAV S.D. - TIME OUT NEW YORK
"Standouts among the visiting companies (to Sketchfest:NYC) include Portland's The 3rd Floor, whose arsenal includes a knack for absurd situations like a foaming-at-the-mouth presentation by a rabid salesman."
BRIAN POSEN - PRODUCER OF THE CHICAGO SKETCHFEST (83 TROUPES ATTENDED)
"They are inspirational. Their work continues to affect many artists, especially here in Chicago. They continue to raise the bar with their consistent excellence they bring to Chicago."
THE NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY NEWSPAPER
"The 3rd Floor boasted a diverse variety of characters and an incisive eye for social and cultural commentary that kept the sketches ahead of the audience, but never quite out of reach…The 3rd Floor killed."
SAM CROW - OUR TOWN
"...well constructed, with elaborate changes of set and costume throughout...The 3rd Floor is irreverent, vulgar and very, very funny...deftly blends slapstick comedy, absurdist .a terrific evening of comedy"
STEFFEN SILVIS - WILLAMETTE WEEK
"a number of pieces which are close to genius...The 3rd Floor company is strong"
ANDREW SIMPSON - ANODYNE MAGAZINE
"...audiences want sketch comedy to make them laugh, and (The 3rd Floor) provides many opportunities to do so."
JENNIFER MCILHENNY - THE OREGONIAN
"...intensely funny, affordable, mind-blowing, intelligent, often demented extreme sketch comedy"
JUSTIN SANDERS - THE PORTLAND MERCURY
"The 3rd Floor knows what they're doing...a talented, confident and very funny sketch comedy troupe."
HOLLY JOHNSON - THE OREGONIAN
"Strong characterizations, sharp timing and intelligent material at every turn…a must-see for comedy lovers...the ideas percolating are smart and funny...These are good brains at work. How much fun they must have putting this stuff together!"
MASON WEST - WILLAMETTE WEEK
"...laugh-out-loud hilarious...the cast plays each role with enthusiasm and a variety that gives each member a shining moment...on the whole, it's a gas, and a pleasant alternative to an evening sitting on your ass in front of the tube."

THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT?: SPECIAL EDITION
Brand New Show!
Every three years, The 3rd Floor, Portland's longest-running and most critically-acclaimed theatrical comedy troupe puts on a run of their greatest hit sketches from the past few years. Entering their 12th season, that time has come once again. But this time, they're doing things a bit differently. The format of their shows has changed a bit since the last Greatest Hits run. Having added heavier themes and storylines to their shows, the prospect of pulling individual pieces to replay on their own (without the corresponding surrounding sketches) has become more and more difficult. So, this time, they're remounting an entire show (2005's "That's Entertainment?"ť), with a few additions just to keep things interesting for those that might have seen it the first time around. This show ran late-nights for only 3 weeks in 2005. The 3rd Floor is thrilled to welcome the show to prime-time for a brand-new audience.
Blue Door Productions is proud to present "That's Entertainment?: The Director's Cut"ť, a journey through the last 100 years of comedy, exploring the styles of the most popular and influential performers of the 20th century, including newly written material in the style of vaudeville, Abbot & Costello, Jack Benny, Your Show Of Shows, Laugh-In, Benny Hill, Steve Allen, Donnie & Marie, SCTV, Saturday Night Live, The Kids In The Hall & many more. The 3rd Floor decided to take on this challenging task as a way to search their comedic roots and explore the joys and the difficulties of making people laugh over the past 10 decades. Each piece is presented without irony. This is not parody, but rather homage to the very successful styles of our past.
Their last show presented 60 sketches in 90 minutes. This one packs in 100 years. It's one their proudest achievements. Please come see why.

"KIDSHOW!"*
*Probably not at all appropriate for children
Blue Door Productions is proud to present Portland's nationally
acclaimed sketch comedy troupe, The 3rd Floor, in their newest sketch
comedy show, "KIDSHOW!" It's been a very busy year for us. We started
off by rocking the Chicago Sketchfest in January of 2006, earning
accolades from some of the Windy City's most read publications (Time
Out Chicago: "Don't Miss! This Pacific NW troupe has been doing sketch
for a long time and just keeps getting better. The 3rd Floor are
masters at combining sketch and theater. Plus they make us pee.") We
followed that up with an original play we performed under our
pseudonym, "The Gunhappy Theatrical Ensemble," entitled "After School
Girlfight! Kill! Kill!, to more critical acclaim (Portland Mercury:
"The 3rd Floor cast is one of the better acting ensembles to be found
in Portland, and their technical crew recreates styles and eras with
exceptional success…across the board features great performances and
stellar production values.") Then, in June, we were invited back to the
east coast for Sketchfest:NYC, where nothing at all was written about
us (however, the sold-out, standing-ovation crowd spoke volumes). In
August, we held our 4th annual Best Of The Best Sketch Fest, inviting
11 of the best sketch comedy troupes in the country to perform over the
course of two hilarious evenings. We capped it off with a special
17-cast-member performance, celebrating our 10-year anniversary (The
Oregonian: "Kevin Chesley introduced our hometown company, noting how
it had rapidly become one of the top sketch comedy groups to watch on
the national scene. And The 3rd Floor's performance lived up to the
introduction "goodness, how lucky we've got it here.") Then, this past
December, we presented our most successful show ever, "Hot Buttered
Butt!", coming just short of selling out a five-week run, and pulling
in some of the best reviews we've ever received. (The Portland Mercury:
"It's hard to write about sketch comedy, especially good sketch comedy.
I want to convince you to attend this show, without ruining any of the
jokes. Let's just say that of the thousands of minutes I've spent in
Portland theaters, the 90 that I spent with the 3rd Floor last weekend
were some of the sweetest, and I didn't look at my watch once.)
And now it's time for a new one. Now, it's not often that the Portland
theater community happens to follow a common theme as a whole, but this
season there's been an almost disturbing trend; countless bizarro shows
about children. Well, far be it from us to buck a popular trend. In our
never-ending quest to be accepted as legitimate theater, we've opted to
join the fray and create an all-new original sketch comedy show
revolving around the world of children and the various forms of surreal
entertainment created for their consumption. "KIDSHOW!" serves up one
of the strangest and giddy shows in our near-11-year history, including
sketches involving fables, fairy tales, nostalgia for the entertainment
of our youth, educational films, the tragic death of the number 9, and
a joint investigation by the greatest teenaged detectives of the 20th
century. We hope it'll all spiral into a dreamy cotton candy cloud of
joy and uncomfortable laughter for those with children, those without
children and serve as a dire warning to those thinking about having
children.
And as a special treat for our audiences (and to promote our upcoming
national sketch comedy festival in August), we've invited some of the
best comedy acts in the country to double bill with us during this run.
Seattle's "All-American Push-Up Party," Bellingham's "The Cody Rivers
Show" and New York's famed "Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company"
have answered the call to entertain Portland all through March.
Please help us continue our momentum in putting Portland on the
national comedy map. And if you'd like to come check out the show, just
drop us a line and we'll save a seat for you.

Blue Door Productions is proud to present Portland's nationally acclaimed sketch comedy troupe, The 3rd Floor, in their newest sketch comedy show, Hot Buttered Butt! It's been a very busy year since our last original show waaaaay back in December of 2005. We started off by rocking the Chicago Sketchfest in January, earning accolades from some of the Windy City's finest publications (Time Out Chicago: Don't Miss! This Pacific NW troupe has been doing sketch for a long time and just keeps getting better. The 3rd Floor are masters of at combining sketch and theater. Plus they make us pee.) And The 3rd Floor's performance lived up to the introduction Goodness, how lucky we've got it here.)
And now we're back with a brand new sketch comedy show, just in time to get your visiting relatives out of your house. ‰ŰĎHot Buttered Butt! continues our tradition of holiday shows that have very little to do with the holidays. Audiences have enjoyed having the option to attend a live show during the holidays that DIDN'T involve yet another clever twist on Scrooge (This time it's from the point of view of Tiny Tim's crutch!) Our last holiday show, The Bi-Polar Express was a smash hit, nearly selling out every performance of our five-week run, becoming our most successful show ever! It was also possibly our darkest show ever. So this year we've decided to let the pendulum swing the other direction and are serving up one of our most ridiculous and giddy shows in our 10-year history, including sketches involving a bullfighter, a love-struck manatee, Cary Grant, a creepy luck dragon, reluctant group sex, Star Wars, Portland snow hysteria, a clown nun, an astronaut and a very angst-ridden, teenaged Supergirl. We hope it'll all spiral into a dreamy cotton candy cloud of joy and uncomfortable laughter.
Please help us continue our momentum in putting Portland on the national comedy map. And if you'd like to come check out the show, just drop us a line and we'll save a seat for you.

"THE BI-POLAR EXPRESS"
Brand New Show!
Blue Door Productions is proud to present Portland's nationally acclaimed sketch comedy troupe, The 3rd Floor, in their newest sketch comedy show, "The Bi-Polar Express". Seriously, we're really good. Critics from Portland, Seattle, Chicago, & New York have all said things about us that are really good to hear. Like, seriously, if you went to Chicago and asked about The 3rd Floor, most people would tell you that we're their favorite comedy group. I'm not kidding you, there's a reason that we keep getting asked to national comedy festivals year after year. The main guy that runs the New York Sketchfest said that we performed one of his favorite nights of sketch comedy EVER…and he's from NEW YORK! The guy that runs the Chicago festival has said that we're one of the very best sketch groups in the country and he sees hundreds of groups every year! Second City (home to just about every major comic of the past 50 years) singled us out of 83 troupes in the Chicago Sketchfest just to pick our brains and figure out how we do what we do. Other sketch comics travel from out of town just to see our new shows. We're THAT respected.
And this is our new show. It's about loneliness, depression, boredom, & babies...oh, and the Yule log at Timberline Lodge. And it's really really funny…at least we hope so. God, we really hope so. We really hope you like us. I mean…people tell us we're good all the time, but, Jesus, what if they're lying to us? What if we're that guy that stinks a little but nobody will tell them, so we just go on stinking? Please like us. I don't know, maybe we should just quit. I feel like getting drunk. Oh god, maybe we should just cancel this. Nobody is going to come. This is going to suck. I just know it. Sorry for bothering you. I shouldn't have skipped my meds. I'll just double up tonight. My dad is going to be so ashamed…again. If we kill ourselves, don't feel bad…it's not your fault.

Every 3 years, we collect two nights worth of our best sketches and put them up under our Greatest Hits banner. And while 2005 does indeed bring about our 9th anniversary, these Greatest Hits shows come with an additional purpose: Money. We need to raise some dough to help out with two upcoming ventures.
The first is a trip to New York City. We have been invited to perform at the prestigious Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, as part of the first annual SKETCHFEST: NYC, the first exclusively-sketch comedy festival on the east coast. The festival is a collection of 19 troupes performing over 3 nights (mostly NYC groups with a choice few from outside New England.)
While we are there, we have also been asked to audition for HBO's U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. Yes, THAT HBO. Their Comedy Arts fest, held annually in Aspen, Colorado, is the largest comedy festival in the world. It is an honor just to get noticed by them (and we didn't even apply - THEY CALLED US, based on recommendations from festival producers and some big wigs at The Second City in Chicago). So, ya know, exciting!
The second reason we need to raise some money is to help fund our own fest here in Portland. This coming August 19th & 20th, we will be hosting the 3rd annual BEST OF THE BEST SKETCH FEST at A.R.T. The invitations have gone out to the 10 best sketch comedy troupes that we've seen on our festival journeys across the country. Last year's festival brought in over 1400 people to see 9 shows over 2 days. We had 7 sell-outs, 5 standing ovations, and even an encore. With your help and a lot of cash, we're hoping to make this year even bigger.
But, in addition to the money, we're also doing these shows because we just love doing it. We have stunningly large egos and we love to perform the sketches that make you laugh the most. Then we feel validated and can stop hating our parents. We've used high-tech newly-invented software to pour over video tapes of all of our past stage shows and determined exactly which sketches received the most laughter and applause (and maybe even a few tears). So please come check out the shows so we can go to New York in June, put up our festival in August, and most importantly, so we can stop hating our parents.

"THE 3RD FLOOR'S ALMOST A HOLIDAY SHOW"
If Only We'd Tried Just A Little Bit Harder
IT'S ALREADY TIME FOR A BRAND NEW 3RD FLOOR SHOW!!!!
AFTER 8 YEARS OF SUPPORT FROM PORTLAND, ISN'T TIME WE GAVE A LITTLE BACK?
Blue Door Productions is proud to present the 50th production in nearly 9 years from The 3rd Floor, Portland's longest running sketch troupe. We set out to follow up last year's very popular and critically acclaimed "The 3rd Floor Takes A Holiday" with an all-new holiday extravaganza. However, when the writing came in, we only ended up with about 15% holiday sketches and a ton of non-holiday related material. But won't it be refreshing to have a barely holiday-themed show in a time when theaters are overrun with 'clever' new takes on A Christmas Carol and retro holiday drag shows? (This is where you say, "Yes, it would be quite refreshing.")
The 3rd Floor has had a busy year. 2004 started with a standing ovation performance at the Chicago Sketchfest in January. We followed that up with an all-new hometown hit, "The 3rd Floor's DOLLAR DAYS!" In July we hosted Portland's second annual national sketch comedy festival, the smashingly successful weekend of comedy we called The Best Of The Best Sketch Festival featuring insanely funny troupes from Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York (and another standing ovation for The 3rd Floor). This fall we were invited back for our 4th appearance at Sketchfest:Seattle. Recently, we met with big wigs at Second City (The Mount Olympus of sketch comedy) to discuss possibly touring under their banner. We've also been asked to audition for HBO next summer in New York, with the potential of being invited to HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado (The largest comedy festival in the world!).
But now, we're back home for the holidays before heading east again for a return appearance at "The Chicago Sketchfest" in January.

SPRING SKETCH COMEDY BLOW-OUT! WITH INSTANT CASH BACK BONUS!*
IT'S ALREADY TIME FOR A BRAND NEW 3RD FLOOR SHOW!!!!
AFTER 8 YEARS OF SUPPORT FROM PORTLAND, ISN'T TIME WE GAVE A LITTLE BACK?
Blue Door Productions is proud to present the 22nd theatrical run of The 3rd Floor, Portland's longest running sketch troupe. After our most critical and financial success ever with "The 3rd Floor Takes A Holiday", we've decided to share the wealth and give a little back! With each paid admission, every audience member will receive an INSTANT $1 CASH BACK BONUS! For a measly $10 (after rebate), they'll get a chance to see what the rest of the nation is quickly discovering to be one of the most innovative and hilarious sketch comedy troupes in the country.
After the "Holiday" show, we've decided to abandon all themes and get back to what put us on the national map; straight-ahead well-written West Coast-style sketch comedy (Believe it or not, there is actually a "West Coast Style" of sketch, and we're helping define it). We'll be taking on the Atkins Diet, Superheroes, Gorilla Poaching, The Shanghai Tunnels, and much much more. It'll all come to a surprise-ending Season Finale. Don't miss the last five minutes!
We're also very proud to be welcoming two new cast members, Portland theater-community staple, Deanna Wells, & hysterically funny local radio and television personality, Daria O'Neill.
The 3rd Floor has had a busy 2003-2004 season. It all started with the bizarre "SPIDERHEADDOG" in June. Then, in July we hosted Portland's first national sketch comedy festival, the smashingly successful weekend of comedy we called "The Best Of The Best Sketch Fest", featuring insanely funny troupes from Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago (and a standing ovation for a rousing T3F reunion featuring a 25 member cast). We followed that up with a trip up north for our 3rd appearance at The Seattle Sketchfest. Then it was back home for the aforementioned smash hit, "The 3rd Floor Takes A Holiday." Finally, we kicked off 2004 with another standing ovation for our 2nd appearance at The 3rd Annual Chicago SketchFest (resulting in talks with big wigs at Second City about a possible national tour!)
But now, we're back home for another round of T3F's unique brand of theatrical sketch comedy.

THE 3RD FLOOR HITS CHICAGO!
Hey Kids!
The coffee is poured, the eyes are bleary, the props are packed and the shuttle is on the way. We are headed out the door and heading to Chicago for the 3rd annual Chicago SketchFest. If you're in Chi-town this weekend or you know someone who is, we're performing at The Theater Building friday and saturday night at 9pm. We'll be gracing the same stage with our good friends in Troop! and The Cupid Players. And saturday night is a rare occasion to see both the Los Angeles and Portland chapters of The 3rd Floor playing back to back.
For full details check out www.chicagosketchfest.com.
Wish us broken legs as we perform in the world capital of sketch comedy!
See ya soon!

The 3rd Floor Takes A Holiday
HOLIDAY SHOWS AREN'T JUST FOR CHRISTMAS ANYMORE
Blue Door Productions is proud to present the 21st theatrical run of The 3rd
Floor, Portland's longest running sketch troupe. This is the first time T3F
has performed a run during that coveted time between Thanksgiving and
Christmas.
Straddling the two holidays inspired us to not just take on the holy
holidays, but any holiday from the whole year. We'll be taking on Valentine's
Day, St.
Patrick's Day, Birthdays, Grandparents Day, Father's Day, Easter, Presidents
Day, and many many more, including everyone's favorite holiday, Armistice Day!
We've assembled what very well may be the best cast we've ever put together,
including recent Drammy Award-winner, Tony St.Clair.
The 3rd Floor has had a busy year. 2003 started with a standing ovation
performance at the Chicago Sketchfest in January. We followed that up with two
all-new hometown hits, "Illegal Cock Fight" and "SPIDERHEADDOG". In July we
hosted
Portland's first national sketch comedy festival, the smashingly successful
weekend of comedy we called "The Best Of The Best Sketch Fest", featuring
insanely funny troupes from Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and
Chicago (and another standing ovation for The 3rd Floor). This fall we were
invited
back for our 3rd appearance at The Seattle Sketchfest.
But now, we're back home for the holidays before heading east again for a
return appearance at The Chicago Sketchfest in January.
The 3rd Floor in "SPIDERHEADDOG"
(sic)
Blue Door Productions is proud to present a milestone in the career of
Portland's longest running sketch comedy troupe. "SPIDERHEADDOG"(sic) is the
troupe's 20th theatrical run and marks their 7-year anniversary.
After a string of themed comedy shows, The 3rd Floor is returning to their
roots and abandoning all themes. The troupe has been toiling for three months,
writing, developing, and honing each sketch to its comic best. The result is
one of the best and most elaborate theatrical sketch shows in years.
The all-star cast includes 3rd Floor regulars, Jordana Barnes, Andy Buzan,
Ted Douglass, Jason Keller and Kevin-Michael Moore. We're also proud to welcome
back T3F co-founder, Loren Hoskins (Hoskins & Breen) and troupe newbie, Deanna
Moffitt (All Jane No Dick). There's also special video appearances by John
Breen (Hoskins & Breen), Mike Chase (KWJJ's Mike & Amy) and Deanna Wells
(Gunhappy Theatrical Ensemble).
After "Full Metal Pantsuit" and "The 3rd Floor:The Musical!", The 3rd Floor
hopes to continue their popular and critically acclaimed series of prime time
summer sketch comedy shows with "SPIDERHEADDOG"!!
But wait! there's more!
COMING SOON!
In the past several years, we've traveled to many a sketch comedy festival
and seen many a hilarious sketch comedy troupe. We've also seen some really
really REALLY BAD sketch comedy troupes. It occurred to us to have a sketch comedy
festival without the risk of seeing a crappy show. Sooooo, we've decided to
have one here in Portland and invite only the groups we've actually seen in
person (from Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago) and KNOW
are fantastically funny. So here's the skinny…(An official press-pack will
come in a couple weeks.)

The 3rd Floor's 19th Theatrical Run
Blue Door Productions is proud to present the 19th theatrical run of The 3rd
Floor sketch comedy troupe. Portland's longest running sketch group, The 3rd
floor, has just returned from an extremely successful tour of Chicago. They
performed to standing ovations at The Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, the
largest fest of it's kind in the U.S. In addition to audience and critical
praise in Chi-Town, they also received positive attention from the senior
staff of The Second City (The Mt. Olympus of sketch comedy.)
Along with
fellow Portlanders, Hoskins & Breen, The 3rd Floor is busy putting Stumptown
on the national comedy map. But now it's time to get back to business.
Illegal Cock Fight is a strange and hilarious collection of theatrical
vignettes that seem to have to have no discernable theme or do they? No. They
don't. But they are funny. T3F is also proud to welcome back Jana Lee
Hamblin, one of their founding members, after a 5 year absence from the
troupe. So hide your roosters and join us for a weird evening of camping
trips, barbecues, Spanish television, booby traps, angry bus drivers, goats,
the perils of diabetes, and, of course, The Sassy Snake.

The 3rd Floor Takes Chicago
Fun in the Windy City
The 3rd Floor just got back from Chicago this week and what a time we had.
The people who run the Chicago Sketch Fest are among the nicest and most
accomodating we've run into during our sketch comedy journeys. Our shows went
very well and were very well received. We were lucky enough to ride the wave
of support for Hoskins & Breen (The only other Portland representative in the
festival - they performed the previous weekend). Along with the buzz we heard
about The Class Project (From L.A. featuring Bryan Coffee, founding member of
T3F), it sounds as though the west coast is staging an unplanned coup of U.S.
sketch comedy.
We were honored to recieve a standing ovation on Saturday night and raves
from some of the higher-ups from The Second City (Considered the Mt. Olympus
of sketch comedy) who saw our show. We were invited to view one of their
shows and were given comp tickets (An honor that apparently is very very
rare.)
There was also a reporter on hand from The Northwestern University newspaper
who saw the show and interviewed us. To view the article go to:

All in all, the trip was a total success. Thanks again to everyone who
supported us in our quest to kick ass in Chicago.
